Positive Progress for Metropolitan Police Checks
Thursday 13th April 2017
In October 2016 the DBS reported that they were supporting the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to work through a number of issues to enable them to reduce the backlog of applications which, in turn, were causing delays in how quickly applications were being processed.
The DBS and the MET have worked hard to resolve the delays in processing checks by appointing and training new staff and increasing efficiency. This has led to improvements in both performance and output and a significant reduction in processing times.
The DBS will continue to work with the MET and monitor the situation closely. However, if you have an application that has been with a police force for over 60 days - Stage 4 ‘Records held by the police search’ our team can make an escalation request for you, we escalate checks online on a weekly basis. This escalation can be done online via the DBS tracking page by both the team and the applicant, the applicant can do this here. If a result is not received within a further 10 working days after the online escalation, the team will contact the DBS to enquire what LPF the check is with. The team will then contact the LPF directly to chase the status of the DBS application.
